"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not the gospel," the Pope told journalists.
The Pope is condemning Trump for talking about walls? He says it's not Christian? He is right, it's not Christian but it doesn't stop religions (including Christianity) from building walls everyday in their own lives.
Albeit, I'm not a Catholic and I am not as educated in that religion as some others but I do know that most Christians believe in a Wall that separates Heaven from Hell. A Wall that separates those they believe are good or bad, a wall that separates believers from non-believers. Non-believers as defined by their religion which can separate you from others based simply on what name you call God. If your God is Allah then you aren't getting over that wall. If your God is Buddha, you probably aren't getting over it, either. Even the kindest and most loving atheists will not be allowed over that wall. It is all determined by their interpretation of God's Word.
There is a Wall, it was defined and built thousands of years ago by men, not God. Men who took Gods words and defined them the way they desired, rather than the way God intended. Men who misconstrued, twisted and crucified both God's words and Jesus' actions. 'God so loved the world' became God only loves Christians and the rest will be thrown over a wall into a pit they call Hell.
Hell is actually a place that anyone can create. It can be in your country, it can be in your home and it can be in your mind and heart. It is separate from Heaven because it involves placing walls between people based on personal judgment of others. Gods love doesn't tell you to judge -anyone other than yourself. We are a people that looks out, looks up and looks down but rarely look within ourselves. We have been taught these ways and we blindly follow them, as if we aren't smart enough or good enough to find our own way.
When you start looking within yourself, you may find many walls that are creating Hell in your life.
A physical wall separating Mexico and the United States will be the manifestation of what already exists in many religious Christians hearts. The idea that you can separate yourself from others, remove yourself from sinners and live happily ever after is a fairytale. To live in Heaven even when your life may seem like Hell is a spiritual path that removes all the walls you have built within you. Becoming one with all people and seeing the truth - God so loved the whole world, not just a few that He offered His only Son (the Word), Love as the solution to living in Heaven every day.
The Pope, who seems like an extraordinarily loving human being lives most of his life behind a WALLED citadel, ironic isn't it?
